Commodore Park Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - Saturday, November 16, 2013
I am pleased to invite you all to the Commodore Park Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. Please join me and the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services for this highly anticipated occasion. The event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, children's activities, and light refreshments.

The 3.2 acre park, located at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Commodore Drive, will have a children's play area and play structure; an adult exercise fitness area; parking; and benches, picnic tables, and walkway that will take you around the park within city land. The groundbreaking ceremony took place earlier this year on March 9th. I am happy to report that Commodore Park is opening a month before expected completion date. I would like to thank the community for your patience, City staff, and Pulte Homes for making this possible.
When Commodore Park opens, we must work together to keep the park clean and maintained. The City’s Adopt-A-Park program is seeking volunteers to help keep the park clean and green by picking up litter, raking, sweeping, cleaning, and simply being our extra ‘eyes and ears’ in the park. Volunteers are asked to make a one year commitment to the program as well as volunteer at least 4 hours per month. Training is provided.

If interested in learning more about the Adopt-A-Park program, please see our website: www.sanjoseca.gov/prns and click on “Volunteer Opportunities” on the left.  If you would like to sign up for the Adopt-A-Park program, please email: AdoptaPark@sanjoseca.gov or call (408) 743-4190

Community Meeting Planned for Proposed Dog Park on Thursday, November 21, 2013

A community meeting regarding the proposed dog park will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Berryessa Branch Library – Community Room. At our last community meeting, residents were asked to rank their preferred choice for a dog park. I also conducted an online survey and received feedback from over 200 residents. Cataldi Park was overwhelmingly selected as the preferred site. Staff from the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services will be presenting on the new site and providing next steps to move forward with this project.
